Trees are the sentinels of history; they move slowly, live long, and experience much more than a single human lifetime can encompass. Legend has it that this giant horse chestnut tree located at the Moffatt-Ladd House in Portsmouth, towering at over 70 feet tall, was planted by William Whipple after returning from signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This tree has borne witness to many generations of human history and has firmly planted itself in the hearts and minds of many admirers to this very day.

16” height x 12” width acrylic painting on 1.5” deep cradled wood panel wired and ready to hang. Edges painted black for an unframed contemporary look.
